Which is better a treadmill or an elliptical trainer?
timsbabygirl6889 asked:
So I was wondering which is better to help me lose weight? An elliptical trainer or a treadmill?
Sorry that should have said, which one will help me lose MORE weight. I’ve already lost 20lbs by dieting but I’m looking to bump up my weight loss. I have quite a bit more to go.

well; i can stay on a treadmill longer BUT an elliptical you can automatically start feeling your buttocks, inner thighs being worked out as soon as you get on!
Running (on the treadmill) is the best type of cardio you can do! you burn sooo many more calories and it’s so much better for your body. If you are unable to run, start by walking with bursts of runnning of 30 seconds, then the next week up it to 1 minute, next week 1:30 minutes, etc. Incline is very important too, each % incline you go up, you burn an extra 10% calories. for example, 1% you burn an extra 10% which equals an extra 10 calories when burn 100 calories, 5% burns an extra 50 calories while burning 100 calories, etc.
Even walking at a faster pace up hills really burns you (and tones your legs good!!)

Personally I like the elliptical better. (Well I don’t like it because it’s harder BUT it does help me lose more weight than just the treadmill.)
I don’t know why but I always seem to sweat more and I lose more weight when on the elliptical as opposed to the treadmill
Theoretically you should be able to burn a few more calories per hour on an elliptical, but the reality depends on how long and how hard YOU can go on either machine.
On the rare occasions I train indoors instead of out, I rotate from treadmill to bike to elliptical every 20 or 30 minutes just to keep the boredom from turning my brain to mush.
If you are overweight now, you are putting more stress on your knees and ankles than is good for them. Your goal is to lose weight, but not at the expense of hurting those vital joints. If you do hurt them, you will then have to cut back on your exercise program.
Both the treadmill and the elliptical trainer will enable you to burn a large amount of calories, depending on your effort. However, the treadmill involves picking your feet up at every step, causing more impact upon your knees, ankles and hips. The elliptical machine, on the other hand, involves keeping your feet planted on the pedals. Thus, there is no harmful impact effect.
Go with the low impact choice: the elliptical trainer. Your knees and ankles will thank you for it, and your weight loss is assured, as long as you are careful to not overeat as well.
