Question about home theater speakers and Blu-ray players?
Ryan. asked:
If I bought a Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray player, but wanted to have the Bose Acoustimass 5 Series III speaker system w/ 3-piece subwoofer/satellite speakers for my home theater.
If I bought a Sony BDP-S550 Blu-ray player, but wanted to have the Bose Acoustimass 5 Series III speaker system w/ 3-piece subwoofer/satellite speakers for my home theater.
Would I need a separate receiver for these speakers to work?
Or could I just hook them up to my Blu-ray player?

You would need a receiver since the Acoustimass 5 is an unpowered (passive) speaker system.
Thats said, why on earth would you choose Bose? They are highly overpriced for relatively mediocre sound. You can do MUCH better for the same money. See the link for further info.
Note that to get the full audio benefit of the DDP-S550 (which has internal decoders for advanced audio formats on Blu-ray) you need a receiver with HDMI input, or at a minimum optical/digital coax, to handle the high bitrate multichannel audio. And, speakers need to be very good quality. For that, forget Bose (the only thing they bring is small size in exchange for poor midrange) and look to almost any other brand. See the 2nd link for some suggestions.
Dont wast your money on bose. Please look at seperates for the same price. Dont rush into this. See what speakers and receiver you can get for the same price.
bose doesn’t offer warranty for 901′s if run powerfull mono block amps the company sucks
