If you know about bass guitars or have had more and are experienced with them what is better k5 or soundgear?
rockstarwannabe1986 asked:
I’m looking really hard and really big into this, seems k5 bass has all that i want, but i want 5 strings and big sound for less money..Ibanez is the band i am going for..what do you think i should get? Both are well worth the money..are there any negatives and positives to these two bass guitars?

Good choice, Ibanez makes some awesome basses =)
Both the K5 and the SR would be pretty good options. The closest bass to the K5 (in quality) in the SR line would be the SR505 – they’re pretty much the same bass actually, but I think the K5 has less features.
They both have Mahogany bodies, which will give you a really warm, deep tone – lots of bass, but your high-end won’t be as articulate.
The K5 has a Maple/Walnut neck, while the SR has a Bubinga/Jatoba neck. This doesn’t make a huge difference; the body affects your tone more than the neck does.
The K5 has Active Dynamix pickups. I haven’t heard much about them, but I assume they’re pretty good. It comes with a 3-band EQ – Bass and Treble each have a Boost/Cut knob, and there’s another knob that lets you shape your Mids a LOT (which is kind of funny, because Fieldy’s signature tone is basically lots of bass and treble with no mids at all…).
The SR has Bartolini pickups, which are some of the best you can get; they’re really flexible, so you can get a lot of tones out of them. It also comes with a Bartolini 3-band EQ, which lets you tailor your sound the way you like it. The SRs EQ is more versatile than the K5s, but the K5′s mid-shaping is more responsive.
The K5 has Gold Hardware, the SR has Chrome Hardware.
The list price on the K5 is $1,173.32, while the list price on the SR505 is $773.32 – so, you’d be paying $400 more, but the quality is about the same. If you still want to pay that much, you could go for a SR705 or SR755, but a SR505 would work too.
That’s a basic overview of their features; neither of them are bad basses by any means. My advice is that the most important thing is to play the basses yourself. Go to a music store with a few in mind, and play each of them for a while. Find which one sounds the best, feels the best, and suits your needs the best – then you’ll be set =)
Hope you find what you’re looking for.
