How long do most Bass Guitars last?

Young But Bright =] asked:

I konw their made out of diffrent materials and some last longer than others, but rather than telling me all that =p, can you give me an accurate estimate on how long the average $250 Electric Bass Guitar last before you should get a new one. Also tell me how often you should get it checked at a guitar shop.

PS. im talking about the guitar not the strings.

Well if your rock out and smash it on a drum kit not very long.

But if you look after it id say 2 years? then if your good enough splash out and get a nice one.

that’s not accurate enough! He needs it down to the millisecond…

In other words, it’s quite impossible to say.
What we can say for certain is that a crappy cheap instrument (like the $250 class you want) is not going to live for very long.
You’ll quickly start to hate it for its poor quality, bad sound, and poor playability and either destroy it or throw it in some corner where it’s going to gather dust for years and years.
