How effective is an hour of cardio on an elliptical trainer?
psilentstorm asked:
I’m a diabetic and I’m trying to lose weight. I do an hour on the elliptical at least 5 days a week. I also plan to add weight training soon, but my concern right now is cardiovascular fitness and fat burning. I know weight training will help with the body fat by increasing my metabolic rate, but I was wondering if an hour of cardio 5-7 days a week is enough to ensure significant weight loss or if I should do more.

Sounds very good. You could try jogging 45 mins instead of the elliptical. Jogging helps regulate sugars.
Don’t do more cardio you could get hurt. If you have so much energy that you can do more than an hour of cardio after doing weights maybe you need to do weights longer or eat a little less calories.
it isn’t so much about the amount of time as it is the quality of time. If you are doing an hour a day but not pushing yourself then your not doing any good. you need to find what your target heart range is and work within that for 10-20 minutes to start then build up. You should do a 5 min warm up and cool down as well
