Mark Etinger asked:

A digital SLR camera is a significant investment. And if you’re going to commit to such a high-quality product, you probably want to know the benefits of ownership. With that in mind, here are some of the most significant advantages to owning a digital SLR – and how this camera can take you to the next level of digital photography.

What are the differences between a Digital SLR Camera and a Standard Digital Camera?

There are several key differences between these two types of camera that every potential buyer should know before making a purchase decision. These differences include:

· Auto-focus. Digital SLR cameras are not the place to go for automatic focus functionality. Unlike their less-expensive cousins, SLR cameras are manual focus.

· Price. Digital SLRs carry more powerful features that straight digital cameras and as such will also have a higher price tag.

· Features. As mentioned above, SLR cameras have a wide array of features geared towards the intermediate or advanced photographer. These include different lighting settings, zoom lenses, shutter speeds and more.

While the point-and-click crowd will be satisfied with less expensive digital cameras, those photographers who want to take a “step up” should consider digital SLR cameras as the next step in their hobby experience.

What are the Advantages of a Digital SLR Camera?

· Lightning fast shutter speeds. Why is a fast shutter speed important? Have you ever lost a shot with an inexpensive digital or standard camera waiting for the picture to snap? Digital SLR cameras are quick on the draw, so when that special moment happens, you’ll capture it all in glorious color.

· Multiple lens options. Digital SLR camera offers serious options for serious photographers. Most prominent among these options is the ability to add a variety of different lenses to the camera. Whether you’re shooting panoramic vistas or emotional close-ups, there’s a lens for your SLR to capture it more effectively.

· Low light photos. Digital SLR’s have the power to turn poor lighting conditions into great shots. The digital sensors in a digital SLR camera can bring vibrant images to life even when there’s not enough ambient light to go around. And the coolest part, they can do it without using a flash!

· More human control. Cameras with automatic flashes or zoom controls are a great choice for many weekend photographers. But people who need a more control are better served by Digital SLR cameras. While many of the point-and-shoot features that make digital cameras so great are available here, there is also a wealth of customizable options in SLRs that a person can control just about every aspect of their photography.

Where is the Best Place to Buy a Digital SLR Camera?

Currently, the best deals on digital SLR cameras can be found online. By knowing what you’re looking for ahead of time (do your homework!) and spending an hour or two comparison shopping, you can find a deal that outstrips almost anything found in a traditional camera store.

Stop searching in vain for the best prices online. Everything you need to save money on all your electronics, apparel and more is right at your fingertips at www.everyprice.com. www.everyprice.com is the best comparison shopping site on the web – delivering side-by-side comparisons of millions of products including computers, videogames, digital cameras, home and garden essentials, books, event tickets, designer fashions and more.
Jonson William asked:

Normally, the cameras which are not loaded with the SLR feature will not give the photographers the exact view of the subject which actually appears in the final photograph. But, the SLR feature helps the photographers view exactly what will be captured by the film or the digital imaging system. Before the introduction of the SLR camera which stands for single lens reflex all the classical cameras had two optical light paths. This optical light path helps capture photographs well when the subject is at a middle or longer distance. But, when it comes to close-up shot its efficiency goes low. Moreover, the cameras which are not equipped with SLR feature perform very poorly while capturing photos in low light and while using low speed films.

Till the 90s, the cameras equipped with the SLR feature were the most advanced cameras. But, the recent developments have left even the digital SLR cameras far behind. Today, the latest compact digital cameras are equipped with LCD. This helps view exactly what CCD captures. Today, such digital cameras are available at flexible prices in the market. Yet, the SLR cameras are very popular among the professionals and the amateurs because of its clarity and shadow details. The photographers can manually adjust the focus in the SLR cameras and they can also be automatically focused by the auto focus feature. It also supports matter focusing screen to diffuse the light that may spoil a photograph. Thus, these features help get exact viewing, focusing and composition.

The digital SLR cameras have a larger sensor in comparison to many other brands. This helps capture quality photographs even in low light. When the sensitivity of the camera is larger it helps increase the quality of the captured photographs. The sensitivity of the SLR camera is pretty large. The range of the digital SLR is 100 –1600 and it depicts the sensitivity of the digital SLR.

Moreover, the quality of the SLR cameras has further increased over the years. Now, this camera functions faster. The time this camera takes to capture the subject right after the click of the shutter is incredibly faster. But, typical cameras take about 0.5 seconds to complete this task. It is a pretty longer time in comparison to that of the digital SLR. Definitely, one cannot ignore the capacity of the battery as you consider the other features of the SLR digital cameras. With the capacity of the digital SLR you can capture approaching 2000 shots. Moreover, you can interchange the lenses of the digital SLR cameras.

Every thing has its own disadvantages and the digital SLR is no exception. In comparison to typical cameras the digital SLR’s weight and size are more. Since, this camera does not possess LCD screen it is not possible to preview the images in this widget. To view the images in this camera it requires additional accessory. Moreover, the prises of the lenses of the SLR camera may be more than that of the camera itself.

The digital SLR cameras help the users know immediately whether the photographs they have taken are of good quality. So, it helps users take better photographs. In monetary terms as well this camera proves to be profitable as the users need not purchase rolls of films. They can just use memory cards which are reusable and can support hundreds of photographs. Moreover, the battery of this camera is rechargeable and it lasts for years if handled properly.

Scott Karcich asked:

When shopping for a Digital SLR Camera people often overlook or skimp on the camera’s lenses. Camera Lenses serve as the digital SLR cameras “eye,” the lens determines what and how your camera will see your subject and how well that view is transmitted to the camera’s sensor chip for recording. The way I like to look at camera lenses is as painter’s brushes, broad strokes, medium stokes, all purpose brushes, and small detail brushes. There is a lot to learn about digital slr camera lenses and this article will serve as a basic outline to understanding them. The following sections explain the basic types of digital SLR camera lenses, how they work, and how to select them.

Focal Length

On a digital SLR camera the focal length of the lenses measures the distance between the lens and the image sensor, measured in millimeters. Lenses can be classified into subgroups like prime, macro, wide angle, normal, telephoto, and zoom lenses. They are also rated in regards to f-stop or speed an example would be a F2.0 50mm lens or a 1.4F 80 mm lens. We will explain this later in this article.

Prime Lenses:

Prime lenses are fixed focal length lenses like a 50mm 1.4f lens. To zoom with these types of lenses you need to use your feet and to get closer or farther away from the subject. Traditionally prime lenses are sharper and faster then zoom lenses. If you’re on a budget you can pick up some amazing used older prime lenses off eBay or your local camera store.

Macro Lenses:

Marco Lenses are your detail brushes they enable you to get up close and personal with your subject. These types of lenses are used for extreme close ups on small objects like daisies, pennies, and food but not limited to these types of subjects. Examples of macro lenses are 50mm and 100 mm macros. These lenses are also great for selective focus types of photos.

Wide-angle Lenses:

Wide-angle lenses are your broad stroke brushes; these types of lenses have short focal lengths. The short focal length has the visual effect of “pushing” the subject away from you and making it appear smaller. The beauty of wide-angle lenses is you can be relatively close to your subject and fit a broad stroke of the background into the scene.

One problem with wide-angle lenses is known as convergence, a distortion that makes vertical structures appear to lean toward the center of the frame. A way to check if the wide-angle lenses you are interested in has convergence is to take test pictures before buying the lens. With high quality wide angles lenses like Canon “L” series lenses address this convergence issue well. Examples of wide-angle lenses are 15MM, 17mm, 24mm and 28mm lenses.

Normal Lenses:

Normal Lenses try to mimic how the human eye sees and are some of the most versatile lenses you can use. These are my all purpose brushes, and are somewhere between a wide angle and a telephoto lenses. If you buy just one lens try and buy the fastest normal lenses you can like a 50mm 1.4f lenses. Some examples of normal lenses are 35mm; 50mm, 65mm and some consider a 80mm a normal lens.

Telephoto Lenses:

Lenses with long focal lengths 100mm and higher are called telephoto lenses. A long focal length seems to bring the subject closer to you and increases the subject’s size in the frame. Telephoto lenses also give your subjects a graphic look and flatten out your subject. These lenses are my short stroke brushes.

Zoom Lenses:

Zoom lenses are special because they can be very versatile. These types of lenses vary in their focal lengths and come in many in wide-angle, telephoto, and wide-angle to telephoto. In my bag I carry a 17mm to 35mm my wide–angle broad brush, 24mm to 70mm my medium brush, and a 80mm to 200mm my short brush. With these three lenses I get a very board range of focal lengths for any situation. All of my zooms are at least f2.8 through out the lenses range, which means my f-stop can stay constant while I am zooming in and out. These types of lenses are very expensive but so get what you pay for. When shopping for a zoom lenses check out the f-stop range rating. An example is a 24mm to 300mm f3.5-f5.6 lenses meaning the lowest f-stop you can shoot is at the 24mm range of the lenses and when you zoom to 200mm the lowest you can go is f5.6. Zoom lenses can give you flexibility and versatility all in one lenses. When buying a zoom lens try and get one that is made of glass and is the fastest you can afford, you will not regret it.

Understanding what these different groups of lenses can do will help you make more informed decisions on what lenses to purchase and what to put in your camera bag.

Mark Robert asked:

If you plan to buy a good product that you will use for a long time, it is better that you do some research. It saves time, money and unnecessary headache later. Digital SLR camera ratings does the same. It helps you to get the best product for your money. It’s that simple.

Digital SLR camera ratings keep consumers current on the constant changes in these great products. The digital cameras seem to improve in many ways. Without the digital camera ratings it would be difficult to know about all of the great products on the market.

What is Digital SLR?

Digital SLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex camera (digital SLR or DSLR). Basically Digital SLR uses an automatic

mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens through the viewfinder. This helps in capturing nice image.

Difference between Point And Shoot Camera and Digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras

Digital SLR’s are for the serious hobbyist and professional photographer who want total control over each picture

With point and shoot digital cameras, you do not have to worry about focusing as everything is done automatically. You also do not have to fuss with adjusting the color or lighting as most point and shoot digital cameras automatically will flash as needed.

In addition, point and shoot digitals hook up easily to the computer, even without software in most cases, although the cameras do come with it. Basically, the point and shoots are just easy to use and there is not too much you have to think about – just point and click!.

Why to consult digital camera ratings?

Because of the variety and the technicalities available in digital SLR cameras, it is better to check the ratings before you buy. A digital camera is great for so many occasions, but there was a time not long ago when the cameras did not provide the best quality images available.

Now even many of the professional photographers use the digital cameras, and many of them consult the digital camera ratings before making their purchases.

What are the Basis of these rating?

Digital SLR camera ratings can be based on many factors;

1) There are some Digital SLR camera ratings that are based on the most popular models with the consumers. These ratings can

be most reliable because most people carefully study the products before they buy.

2) Ratings based on positive and negative details of each digital camera on the list.

3) There are some services which provide detailed descriptions from customers who recently purchased the different models. These customer descriptions can be very helpful to those looking to purchase a new camera.

4) Rating based on Best Price

Other points to consider

The Digital SLR camera ratings will provide information on the quality of the pictures produced by each product. You should consider all of this information when making their purchase of a digital camera.

There are some facilities in a camera that might increase the price but are not needed by each customer. You could save some money by excluding some facilities when buying a camera. Digital cameras are usually great tools for recording special memories and many other purposes.

Mike Singh asked:

The conventional camera depended entirely on chemicals and mechanical processes – nothing else was required to make them work. Following along on the footsteps of major technological breakthroughs in consumer electronics, the new digital camera is part of this fundamental shift in technology.

The digital camera has two things: a built-in computer, and electronic recorded images. They have not entirely replaced the conventional camera, though, as film represents the highest quality of pictures.

The early digital cameras were used to store images on memory devices within the camera, then transferring the images to the computer with the help of cables. Today, most digital camera makers provide reusable and removable storage devices, such as SmartMedia cards, CompactFlash, cards and Memory Sticks. Some other removable storage devices include the floppy disks, hard disks, or micro-drives, writeable CDs and DVDs. This has considerably enhanced the volume of visual data that can be stored.

A digital camera uses light converted into electrical charges, instead of film, to take pictures. It focuses this light through a lens or a series of lenses onto a sensor, which records the image electronically. The sensor used the most is employed by a CCD (charge coupled device) while others use a CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor).

If a CCD is used to transport the charge, its sensors create a high-quality, low-noise image, while the CMOS are more susceptible to noise while traditionally using less power. The CCDs consume as much as 100 times more power than that of a CMOS yet have been mass-produced for a longer time. They have a higher number of higher quality pixels yet both play the same role – they turn light into electricity.

What every photographer is looking for is clarity and high detail, with very little blurriness or a grainy look. This has to do with the resolution of the camera, which refers to the amount of detail the camera can capture. Hewlett Packard estimates that a 35mm film is about 20 million pixels, considered a very high-resolution picture – 1216×912, or 2 million total pixels, is a photo lab quality for the 4×5 picture.

To break it down even more, a 1 megapixel digital camera will produce images that are good for e-mailing or posting on the Web because their resolution is low. The images taken from a 2-megapixel camera are suitable for 4×5 inch prints while those taken from a 4-megapixel camera can produce 16×20 inch prints.

The digital cameras use four kinds of lenses. These are: fixed-focus, fixed-zoom lenses; optical-zoom lenses with automatic focus; digital-zoom lenses, and replaceable lens systems. The fixed focus and fixed zoom lenses are used in inexpensive cameras while the optical zoom lenses have both wide and telephoto options. The aperture and shutter speed are used to control the amount of light that reaches the sensor.

The aperture setting, or the size of the opening in the camera, is automatic in most digital cameras but a few allow manual adjustment. This is because certain professionals or amateurs want more control over the final image. The shutter speed is the time amount that passes through the aperture. This can be set electronically, which is different than using film in the conventional 35mm cameras. The digital camera has a digital shutter, rather than a mechanical shutter.

Overall, the digital camera and the traditional film camera have the same principals. The both have a viewfinder for aiming the camera, the lens for focusing, the ability to store several images and remove them later on, with a compact format for everything’s storage.

Two different systems yet slightly the same – the conventional camera captured images with light-sensitive film to store them after chemical development, while the digital camera used memory storage and advanced image sensor technology, capturing images to store them in digital format that is instantly available instead of having to wait. Yet the digital camera is more environmentally friendly, keeping up with the issues of the world while photographing these issues at the moment they occur.

Or Hillel asked:

Digital cameras use a sensor known as CCD in order to convert light energy to pixels. Dust that accumulates on the CCD can result in black pixels or imperfections in the photo as it blocks light energy from hitting parts of the CCD. We will go over a few solutions for eliminating dust on the CCD.

The CCD sensor is located behind the reflex mirror in a digital SLR camera. When taking a photo the mirror moves and lets the light coming through the lenses hit the CCD which then converts the light to a series of pixels comprising the digital photo. Most of the time the camera is closed and dust can not penetrate it. Some cameras might not be completely sealed against dust resulting in dust penetrating he camera’s body even with the lenses installed. However in most cases the majority of dust exposure is when lenses are replaced. During that time the camera is open and exposed to air and dust.

In order to minimize dust on the CCD make sure that you minimize the time in which the camera is open and exposed to air. For example when changing lenses make sure that you are in a relatively clean environment and that you have the second lenses handy. Try to avoid changing lenses when in windy or dusty environment. Never take the lenses off a camera and leave the body open and exposed – either install other lenses or put a seal on the body to prevent dust penetration.

Even with careful care dust will eventually find its way into the camera and on the CCD. There are a few ways to get rid of that dust. Depending on your camera some of them will not be available to you.

Active dust removal: Most new SLR cameras include some sort of active dust removal mechanism. The most common one is anti dust vibration. This solution removes dust from the sensor by vibrating it in high frequency for a short period of time. Vibrating the CCD will result in dust falling off the CCD or “dancing its way” from the CCD. Different cameras turn the anti dust vibration at different times. Some cameras turn it on every time the camera is switched on, some every time it is switched off and some both when the camera is switched on and when it is switched off. Other cameras turn the vibration on periodically or let the user turn it manually.

Cameras that include an image stabilizer based on sensor movement usually also include anti dust vibration since they already include the mechanical part: a motor that can move the sensor and thus the anti dust vibration is a simply software addition.

Passive dust prevention: Passive solution that tries to eliminate some of the causes for dust accumulating on the CCD. The main reason that draws dust to the CCD is static charge. Some manufacturers add an anti-static coating on the outer layer of the CCD (usually this is the low pass filter layer). By doing that the CCD is less likely to attract dust due to its static charge.

Manual dust removal: Manual removal is simply a way for you to manually clean the CCD. When put in manual dust removal mode the camera moves the mirror and keeps it in a position where the CCD is exposed and is reachable. At that time you can try to blow off dust from the CCD for example by using an air blower. You could also use special cloth in order to clean the CCD but be very careful when doing that and make sure you read the manufacturers instructions for how to clean the CCD without damaging it. If you’re not sure how to clean the CCD it is better not to attempt cleaning as it can be easily damaged.

All dust removal methods have their limitations. Adhesive dust or other material is either very hard to clean or impossible to clean. Eliminating dust completely from the CCD is impossible but by applying care and the mentioned features most of the dust that results in photo imperfections can be avoided. For the casual photographer the built-in active or passive anti dust features should be enough and manual cleaning will not be needed.

There’s no such thing, anyone can use digital SLR cameras as long as they can point and shoot.

Things get slightly more complicated as you ho further in depth into photography, but don’t let that stop you.

If you’re interested in photography at all and are considering taking it up seriously as a hobby or a profession, then I would suggest that you shop around and find the right digital SLR cameras for you.

Start as you mean to go on and you should be fine. Admittedly you might be stuck on the auto meter button for a while, but you will eventually get over that problem and will find yourself using the many functions offered to you by the digital SLR cameras, with ease.

Jayda Kaycee asked:

The digital camera technology has developed by leaps and bounds over the past few years. The technological advances that have been made has enabled people of all skill levels to purchase advanced photography equipment. The affordability of these high-tech digital cameras allows people of all incomes to be able to purchase nice equipment. Millions of digital cameras are being sold worldwide.

Getting started with a brand new camera is not what it used to be, today’s digital cameras are very user-friendly and affordable. One benefit of using a digital camera over an old film camera is that you can take unlimited photos at no extra cost because you do not need to purchase film.

In addition, digital cameras have a built-in LCD screen so that you can instantly view your photos without printing the images. This LCD screen allows the photographer to frame the pictures more precisely. An LCD screen also gives the photographer the capability of re-taking the picture if it didn’t turn out like they expected. If the picture doesn’t turn out as good as you wanted, you can always delete it and try again!

Digital cameras today come in all different shapes and sizes. There are great benefits that can be found in some of the simple cameras as well as the high-tech digital SLR cameras. There are many benefits to using a higher end digital SLR camera including:

1. Digital SLR cameras allow a photographer to choose from dozens of high end features such as ISO settings, aperture priority, and shake-reduction. On the other hand, if you don’t want to fuss with the extra features you also have the option to set it on automatic and let the camera do the work for you.

2. Digital SLR cameras broaden your horizon by allowing a photographer to change lenses. Switching out lenses enables a photographer to take many different kinds of photographs with just one camera. A high quality lens allows you to shoot in many different conditions with much brighter and sharper images.

3. A photographer who uses a digital SLR camera also gains the respect of others around. People see the nice equipment and automatically assume that you are experienced in your field. The great thing about it is that you can get nice equipment without going bankrupt because it is so affordable!

Although you have many camera options out there, you should definitely choose a digital camera over a film camera. Because digital cameras are so affordable, there is no question about what kind of digital camera you should buy– digital SLR cameras are the way to go.
